Bryan Cote

Director

Bryan has been a journalist and healthcare humorist since 1995, chronicling mental health, addiction, oncology, and healthcare disparities—alongside the everyday comedy of raising kids and navigating aging parents. He cut his teeth writing for The Boston Herald, where he won “Best Feature” from the Association of Health Care Journalists for “Girl Interrupted,” a moving profile of a teenager battling epilepsy. In 2000, he launched The Behavioral Health Hour column, which has since grown into a widely respected digital platform read by over 1.2 million people annually.

Beyond his writing, Bryan is a Managing Director for Berkeley Research Group’s health policy practice. He also spent 13 years coaching middle school sports teams at Grace Academy in Hartford, Connecticut, where he and his wife, Janine, raised their family.

In 2023, Bryan teamed up with his son, Jack, to co-direct The Boston Bulldogs documentary, an inspirational film about an addiction recovery running club. The project earned international accolades, including “Best Student & Health Film” at the Cannes World Film Festival. Bryan is currently touring the film to schools and communities globally, with screenings reaching audiences across five countries. Though he played tennis in college, Bryan has since evolved into an avid runner, successfully completing two Boston Marathons with the Bulldogs team—despite managed care and navigating the course, getting lost both times along the route.
